I decided to include Tetsu's POV so I could flesh out the story more; it helped that I'd been reading a little about celibacy for monks in Japan and how the current generation of monks are changing their modes of outreach, including setting up bars where they serve drinks, chant sutras, and give practical life advice. I'm a little leery of spending too much time doing research for what's turning out to be a short story, but I can't just wing it, either; I know next to nothing about Buddhism and how it's practiced in Japan, where monks can marry, drink alcohol, and eat meat unlike their Southeast Asian counterparts. I've limited myself to looking up only those things that I have questions about so I can avoid losing myself in endless internet rabbit holes.
